Choosing Ski Resort Hotels
You’ve decided you want to go on a ski vacation and know the general area you’re interested in, but how do you go about choosing from the huge variety of ski resort hotels? For most of us money is a consideration, but it need not be the only factor in making a choice. There is a lot of competition for vacation dollars these days so a little research may help you find something really nice and more affordable than you thought.
If you have children and this will be a family trip, you certainly want a hotel that is child friendly. They should have access to some ski lessons and easy slopes. Maybe your children would enjoy snowboarding or tubing. If you have very young children, the hotel you choose should offer some type of daycare. Some places even have after hours care so you can enjoy at night out. Many hotels offer activities that are fun for the whole family like sleigh rides or ice skating. Often resort hotels also have suite, cabin, or condo options which may make more sense for a family than one or two rooms.
A lot of people will choose to vacation with a group of friends, so take everyone’s priorities into consideration as much as possible when booking a hotel. While some folks picture themselves relaxing by the fire after a day of skiing, others will want some nightlife. Are there clubs and bars nearby? Those who want to stay in can do so and the ones who want to party can dance the night away.
Sometimes you just want to retreat from everyday life. Maybe you do like to ski or participate in other winter sports, but you don’t want to do it exclusively. Look for a resort hotel near shops and museums or within easy driving distance to local attractions.
A lot of resorts these days are all inclusive. They have restaurants, shops, and fitness facilities right on the premises. Spa facilities are increasingly popular and who would not enjoy a little pampering? After all it is a vacation, so enjoy yourself.
I think that resort companies today are listening to what their patrons want and trying to provide it. People don’t want to drive all over the place to have fun. They want to stay somewhere that everything they could want to do is within walking distance or a short drive away. Most places are close to major cities and airports and provide shuttle transportation. Those that are more remote will include most any amenity you can think of, like heated walkways between areas, free buses or shuttles to the lifts, rental equipment shops, and lockers to store your gear for the night. Think about what is most important to you and find a ski resort hotel that will fulfill your expectations.
